THANKYOU everyone for yesterday's Welcome Meeting and AGM
We had some great ideas, enthusiastic people new and old, and a glass of wine!...

We also adopted a new Constitution and Code of Conduct which you can find on this webpage.
I'm really looking forward to some new ideas over the next few months and will be in contact with everyone who signed up very soon.

Please fill up one or two plastic cups with as many sweets as you can!! (Cups in book bags soon)
Please get baking! We would like a massive cake stall this year! Biscuits, cupcakes, big cakes, flapjacks, muffins, cookies…. Please bring them in on the day of the Fayre (Friday 16th June)
ST JOHN'S SUMMER FAYRE - FRIDAY 16TH JUNE
URGENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We desperately need more volunteers to enable us to run all the stalls at this years Summer Fayre.
If you are able to help please let me know if can do 5-8pm or would prefer either 5-6.30 or 6.30-8pm and if you have a preference of what you help with.
Also anyone who can help with beforehand prep, lucky dip wrapping, sweet cups etc?

Next PTFA Meeting - change of date
Please note that the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 26th April has been cancelled.
The next PTFA meeting will now be held on Thursday 4th May 7.30pm at The Greyhound.
This will also include Summer Fayre planning.
Everyone welcome and we hope to see as many there as possible.
Bring the family along to win prizes at our first Chip & Quiz evening.
There will be a pub style quiz with the usual favourites- like a music round, a sports round and a general knowledge round; these will include compulsary questions for the kids to answer and challenges for the kids.
Ticket price will include a Mini Fish & Chips, a Sausage & Chips, a Cheesy Veg Cake & Chips, or Just Chips from Georges Tradition served at 7pm. (Choices must be preordered when buying tickets)
There will also be a bar serving alcoholic drinks, cans, squash, teas and coffees for very reasonable prices.
TICKETS IN ADVANCE ONLY £6 per person (inc child & adult).
These can be bought via bookbag forms that will go out early March.
A great big thank-you to everyone that helped out at the film nights- last night was like clockwork and even I was home by 7.40pm thankyou! We had a large number of tickets sold and from my point of view they were yet again a great success. (....though I was cutting it fine getting the flaming film to work last night! Keep Calm and Wiggle the Wire! Thanks to Yvonne Byrne and Scott Kelby for the emergency back ups)
And MASSIVE thanks to both Marie Taylor and Yvonne Byrne for organising these events on the night for the first time. Hope the little noisy darlings haven't put you off in the future!

To be able to run the St John's Christmas Fair we desperately need more volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers for the following:-
Sell Santa Tickets - Monday 21st - Thursday 24th 9am or 3.30pm - if you could just do one that would help
Kitchen help - If anyone has kitchen experience or is willing to do the brief training please let us know - it is looking likely that we will be unable to have turkey cobs and muelled wine this year if we don't get more kitchen volunteers
Face painting - anyone who is any good at this?
Stalls - help needed to man the stalls either 5-6.30pm or 6.30-8pm

CHRISTMAS FAIR - THURSDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 2016
We are currently organising the Christmas Fair for Thursday 24th November and as always desperately need as many volunteers as possible.
If you are able to help out on the evening, to set up or with preparations before the fair that would be great.
If anyone has any skills like face painting or would like to help out with a specific stall please let me know.
We also need volunteers to bake mince pies and bring in on the day.
If you are able to help could you please get back to me with when you would be available and what you would like to help with, if you know otherwise we can allocate you a task.

Note from New Chairman 16/17 Zoe Adamson
Apparently in a fit of spontaneity I volunteered to be PTFA Chairperson! No I wasn’t dreaming!….. And so I thought I had better introduce myself.
I have two children. Lucy is 4yrs and started Reception this year and Alex is 2yrs. I have one husband, no pets and I now work from home as a silversmith jeweller.
I was born in and have lived in Belper most of my life. I am an old St Johnner, attending in the late 80’s (no I won’t be specific!) until moving to Belper School. I have a masters degree in Archaeology, worked as a secondary school science technician, then spent 9 years in the control room for East Midlands Ambulance Service taking 999 calls. I resigned last year to follow my dream to be full-time mum and part-time jeweller.
My family traditionally have been heavily involved with school associations. My dad was on the board of governors at St Johns, my mum a dinner lady, and both were very active with fairs, discos, the teacher/parent pantos, and the Bonfire Night. It’s something I am very proud of.
I will say that my experience is limited, and therefore this will take some getting used to and I shall probably require plenty of support and a little bit of patience from all of you that have been with the PTFA for a while. I have chaired more informal meetings whilst at EMAS and consider myself a bit of a party planner! I am admin for the Facebook page ‘Belper Parents Network’ and try to involve myself with local activities and events whenever possible.
My intentions for this half term are to have the handover from Sharon Kelby and hopefully to have discussion with Yvonne Byrne (Secretary) and Liz James (Treasurer) about our roles after their respective handovers. And I’m very sure Marie Taylor will have a few tips too.
I am happy to see how positive the AGM was with so many people willing to help out. I am feeling anxious, however excited and enthusiastic to get started.
The events at school during my time with St Johns were my very happiest memories, no doubt fuelled by my family’s involvement and I hope the same will be said by my children, and indeed your own.
I look forward to getting to know you better individually and how you like to be involved with the PTFA.
Roll on the 2016/2017 school year!

We have a vacancy for a treasurer on our committee. If you feel you are able to help the school and take up this role we would really like to hear from you. No experience is necessary, but a knowledge of finance and accountancy would be a great benefit.

Christmas Fair Friday Nov 20th
Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered their help at the Xmas Fair Friday November 22nd. The event was well attended and raise a fabulous total of £1825. Many, many thanks to you all.
Christmas Disco Friday Dec 11th 5.15-6.15 Infants 6.30-7.45 Juniors. tickets go on sale Dec 7th.
We hope all the children who attended the October Disco enjoyed themselves. Many thanks to all those who helped out. We raised a fantastic £1118.
Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered their help at the Summer fair on Saturday June 20th. The event was well attended and despite a gentle splatter of rain in the middle we still managed to raise a fabulous total of £1830. Many, many thanks to you all.
Our primary aim is raise funds so we can provide the school with educational items and extra curricular activities that are of benefit to the children at the school, but outside the remit of current government funding. We need your help to do this as a parents, grandparents, carers, teachers and even ex-pupils! You can be get involved with the PTFA in whatever capacity suits your time and availability. It can be as simple as baking cup cakes for us to sell, donating a raffle prize to just spending an hour wrapping lucky dip prizes or folding raffle tickets up to being a full time committee member. Or even helping up us to update the PTFA section of this website. We are always open to new ideas and volunteers. Please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
