Year 3

FOUNDATIONS

Children will create more complex algorithms.  They will be reminded of the need for these to be specific and accurate.

Pupils will know that there are different programmes which serve the same purpose.

Technology allows us to express our views. Children learn the difference between the internet and the world wide web.  They begin to learn to make their searches more effective.

Programming skills will be developed further as children learn about repetition, abstraction and decomposition.    They will be encouraged to develop some independence when programming and begin to create simple games.

APPLICATIONS

Children will be introduced to Microsoft Word.  They will be encouraged to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this programme compared to Textease.  They will learn to use more advanced features such as the spellchecker, find and replace,  bullet points and headings.

Children will create music in line with their topic on Ancient Greece.

Children will conduct searches on a database and create bar and pie charts to display results.  They will answer questions on an online survey.

IMPLICATIONS

Pupils will write a newspaper article and a blog in line with their topic.  We will discuss the difference between newspapers and blogs.  The power of social media versus edited content.
