Activity 1: The Crumpled Paper
We crumpled up a piece of paper, then we unfolded the paper and smoothed it out to how it was before. However the paper remained crumpled and creased. We tried to apologise to the paper for what we did but nothing changed. Even though we said sorry the creases didn’t come out.
Activity 2: The Bad Apple
There were two apples which looked very similar on the outside. We treated one apple very carefully and passed it round the class. We were extra kind, payed it compliments and said lovely things. With the other apple, we were not careful and called it names. We then cut both apples in half to see the difference. The apple that had been treated kindly looked healthy, clean and nice. The other looked mushy, unhealthy and broken. A good friend always treats their friend nicely.
Activity 3: The Toothpaste
We squeezed the entire contents of a tube of toothpaste out into a dish. We then tried to put all the toothpaste back into the tube. Obviously, this is not possible. We linked this with unkind words; once it comes out, you can’t put them back in. A good friend always says kind words.
Activity 4: Glittery Gossip
The glitter represents the gossip. We started with one person telling another person some gossip (shaking hands). The glitter then spread hands, that person then told someone else etc. The glitter kept on spreading and was hard to get off. A good friend does not share gossip!
Activity 5: The Chocolate
Miss Thompson offered us two boxes, one was a small box wrapped in newspaper and one nicely wrapped in brightly coloured paper. We discussed ‘what could be inside?’ ‘Which would you pick and why?’ Most of the class said they would choose the brightly coloured box because it looked nice. We then opened the boxes. The newspaper wrapped box had some tasty chocolate inside and the nicely wrapped box contained grass and stones.
Although the box looked nice, it wasn’t very nice on the inside, but the newspaper-wrapped box was sweet on the inside. This is something to look out for when choosing friends. A good friend is sweet on the inside!
