Welcome to Ashbourne Class
We are Early Years Foundation Stage 2 (EYFS2), also referred to as Reception year group.
I am an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) class teacher. I have worked at St John's since January 2002, as a class teacher. Before that I worked at many schools in Derbyshire as a supply teacher, teaching different year groups. When I first started teaching I worked at a primary school in Nottingham for several years. I then had a career change for a while. I travelled and worked in France for a few years. Since working at St John's I have always taught EYFS 2 (Reception). I love teaching this age group. I am really looking forward to meeting the children joining us in EYFS 2 in September and getting to know them. Our new EYFS block is a fantastic environment in which to play and learn. As soon as I walk into my new classroom everyday it puts a smile on my face. I hope that your children will really enjoy it too.
A little bit about myself...
I have lived in Belper for over 20 years. I have one son, James, who lives in Japan. He teaches English in a language school. Last year, we were very lucky to be able to visit him in Japan and explore such an amazing country. We love to travel in our camper van, visiting many countries in Europe. When I am at home I enjoy reading, singing and listening to music.

Experiences in Reception year at St John's:
The children in Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, so we are constantly giving the children opportunities to explore and learn through play, indoors and outdoors.
Some of the other special events that take place during the first year at school are:
*The children perform a Nativity play for parents at Christmas time
*PTFA fund a treat at Christmas, we have had theatre visitors
performing for us and magic trick performances in the past
*PTFA fund our Living Eggs experience at Easter time
*In the past we have had White Post Farm road show visit us at St John's
with a variety of animals for the children to hold, touch and observe for the day
*Scooter/ balance bike experience session
*Teddy bear picnic in the summer term
*Reception welcome service at St Peter's Church
Physical Education (PE)
Our class will have PE on Wednesday and Thursday, as soon as the children are settled into school (usually we start formal PE lessons around week 4 of the Autumn term). The children are expected to have a go at getting changed themselves. It would be great if you could practise these skills at home by letting your child get dressed themselves in the morning and at bedtime into their pyjamas by themselves. Let your child practise putting on their own socks and shoes as often as possible. Please make sure all clothes and shoes in PE kits are named.
Here is a plan of the school. Our classroom is based in the new built block of classrooms near the school field. Our classroom is F2.
