Welcome to Year 1 - Findern class.
Hello children! How lucky are you getting to have TWO teachers in Year 1? If you read below with your mummy and daddy, you can find out a little bit about us and on what days you will see us in school.
Hello, I'm Mrs Girling and I will be your teacher on a Monday, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays. I know that some of you know me because I have taught some of your older brothers and sisters. For those that don't already know me, I've been a teacher here at St. John's for about 17 years and in that time I've taught Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
I have 3 children of my own. My daughter is 13 and is going into Year 9 at Belper School. My twins are 7 and are going into Year 3 here at St. John's. They keep me very busy but when we get the chance, we like to visit Filey where my mum and dad have their own caravan. I just love the sea so we try to go as often as we can. We also bought a tent a couple of years ago so we like to go away camping for the weekend with friends. Toasting marshmallows on the firepit is one of our favourite things to do. Yum!
We are so lucky in Year 1 because we get the chance to do lots of exciting projects. I've been trying to think which one is my favourite but it's so hard to choose! I do really like Bright Lights, Big City because we learn all about London and the best part is making the food for a tea party with a very important visitor. I wonder who that could be?
Anyway, I'm SO looking forward to meeting you all in September and I cannot wait to hear about all of your adventures over the summer holidays. Have a lovely time and I'll see you very soon.
Hello! My name is Mrs Garbutt. I will be teaching you every Thursday and Friday and alternate Wednesdays. I've been teaching at St John's for 22 years now. I've taught Year 4, Year 5, Year 2 and Year 1. I'm sure I've taught some of your brothers and sisters in the past.
I have a son at St John's. We have a caravan that goes on the back of our car and we love to go to the seaside for our holidays. My favourite place is France, where I can have French bread and cheese! We also enjoy going to Whitby and Filey. Mmmm Fish and Chips!
I love singing and playing the piano. I run the school choir for the Key Stage 2 children. There's a piano in our classroom so hopefully we'll enjoy singing together.
I really enjoy our 'Bright Lights Big City' project as it's exciting finding out about London. I also like our first project, Enchanted Woodland, as we can explore what wonders we might find in the woods.
I can't wait to meet you all in September. Have a wonderful time this Summer!
