Today we are going to be looking at finding change.

 

 

Look at the slides on the PowerPoint. How much does the item cost? Now look at the coins that the customer is going to use to pay with. How much money is the customer paying with?

 

Discuss strategies for finding change. We are finding out what is going to be left over. Which operation should we use?

 

Write the subtraction sentence together: 15p – 12p=.  Remind your child to take the 'tens' then the 'ones' to find the answer:

 

15p – 12p

15p – 10p= 5p

5p – 2p = 3p
