Mrs Gartside's group

This week we will be practicing words with the 'oe', 'au' and 'ey' spellings in them.

In phase 3 you learnt the 'oa' spelling. Now we are going to learn 'oe', for the same sound.

Have a go at reading some 'oe' words:

Joe

toe

hoe

doe

heroes

tomatoes

potatoes

In phase 3 you learnt the spelling 'or'.  A couple of weeks ago we looked at 'aw'.  Now we are going to learn 'au', for the same sound.  Have a go at reading some 'au' words:

Paul

haul

author

launch

August

autumn

automatic

In phase 3 you learnt the spelling 'ee'.  A couple of weeks ago we looked at 'ea'.  Now we are going to learn 'ey', for the same sound.  Have a go at reading some 'ey' words:

donkey

turkey

jockey

trolley

valley

chimney

Watch out - these next few have more of an 'u' sound that an 'o' sound in them.

money

honey

monkey

This weeks spellings are a few of the above, plus a couple of tricky words.  Don't forget to use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check to practice and use the methods on the previous page, plus 'Phonics Play'.  They are:

toe        Paul        August        donkey        have       little

Write each of these in a sentence, in your best handwriting.
