Mrs Gartside's group

Last week we started looking at split digraphs, beginning with 'i_e' and 'e_e'.  This week we're going to look at the remaining 3 - 'a_e', 'o_e' and 'u_e'.  Dont forget that 'u_e' can make the 'yoo' sound (phoneme) as well as the 'oo' phoneme, in the same way as 'ue' does.  Use the ideas that are on the previous page, along with the games on Phonics Play and ICT games.

Have a go at reading these words with the 'a_e' grapheme in them:

came

made,

make,

game,

same,

snake,

amaze,

escape,

Now have a go at reading these words with the 'o_e' grapheme in them:

bone,

pole,

woke,

note,

home,

those,

stone,

alone,

explode,

envelope,

Finally, what about these words with the 'u_e' grapheme (2 sounds):

June                                          cube

flute                                          tube

rule                                            use

prune                                         compute

Now have a go at learning these spellings:

came     made     bone      June      cube      there
