Hello, for the last time in Year 1.  Your next set of spellings will be as Year 2's and I'm sure you'll ROCK IT as you have this year.  Well done to all of you!

This week we are continuing to look at the alternative phonemes (sounds) for letters.  This week it is mainly 'a', 'e' and 'u' plus 'c', 'g' and 'y'!!

Can you spot the patterns?  What different sounds can each letter make?

 

a ‘ah’ as in hat; ‘or’ as in ball; ‘ai’ as in acorn; ‘ar’ as in father; ‘o’ as in was; ‘eh’ as in many.

 

e:  'e' as in red; 'ee' as in he; 'uh' as in the.

 

u'uh' as in put; 'you' as in unicorn

AND

c 'c' as in cat; 's' as in cent; 

 

g'g' as in goat; 'j' as in magic

 

y'y' as in yell, 'ee' as in lady; 'igh' as in sky; 'ih' as in gym   !!!!!!!

 

ure 'yor' as in pure,   ture:  'ch uh' as in future

 

My Goodness - there are a LOT!!  Can you spot them as you read signs, on the internet, in games...?
