Mrs Gartside's spellings

Well done everyone!  I've had some super messages from your mummies and daddies, telling me how hard you've been trying.  Keep up the good work.

This week we will be practicing words with the 'ue' and 'aw' spellings in them.  Remember we looked at the 'oo' spelling in phase 3.  This is usually found in the middle of words, but 'ue' is often found at the end. It can also sound slightly different - more of a 'yoo' sound . Have a go at reading some 'ue' words:

due,

blue,

glue,

venue,

statue,

rescue,

argue,

In phase 3 you learnt the spelling 'or'.  Now we are going to learn 'aw', for the same sound.  Have a go at reading some 'aw' words:

jaw,

paw,

claw,

lawn,

yawn,

shawl,

drawer

This weeks spellings are a few of the above, plus a couple of tricky words.  Don't forget to use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check to practice and use the methods on the previous page, plus 'Phonics Play'.  They are:

blue,         rescue,         paw,         claw,        have,        like

Write each of these in a sentence, in your best handwriting.

I'd love to see what you do and how you get on with your spelling test on Friday.
