 Think about how the Lighthouse keeper’s wife used a pulley system to transport the basket of food.

Look at the powrpoint to see how levers, pulleys and gears work.

Experiment with cotton reels, rolling pins and string to make simple pulleys.  Use Knex, lego or recycled materials to create a simple ‘lighthouse’ tower for the experiment.


 Can you work out how the lighthouse keeper’s lunch could be lifted up from the ground to the top of the lighthouse?
