Writing

Last week, an online blogger added a diary entry to his blog for his two-year-old daughter to read when she is older, so that she can understand the importance of what is happening in the world at the moment.  An extract is provided below:

‘You don’t know it, but as I write this you’re living through history.

You’re right in thinking that we live through history every day, but most of it never gets written about, not at this scale.’

This week, we would like you to write some diary entries for yourself to read in the future: one to explain how you felt on Wednesday 18th March 2020 (when you found out that schools would be partially closing) and one to explain your new school day / routine, whether this be at school or home.

Then, to expand, you will write further entries for how you felt on Monday 23rd March 2020 (when the Prime Minister announced stricter rules for when we would be allowed to leave our homes) and how this has affected the daily life of you and your family.

Today, you will be reading a diary extract from ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ to remind yourself of what a diary extract looks like.  You will then use the diary planner sheet to help you to plan your diary entry.
