Accelerated Reader
Once children have developed secure phonics skills are are ready to move on from fully decodable reading books, we introduce Accelerated Reader from Year 2 onwards. This programme supports children in becoming independent, confident readers by helping them to choose books that are well-matched to their reading level and interests.
After finishing a book, children complete a short quiz to check their understanding. This allows teachers to monitor progress closely and ensure that children are reading at an appropriate level, while also encouraging a love of reading for pleasure.
Accelerated Reader motivates pupils through clear goals and regular feedback, which teachers then use to help your child to set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
