Y5 Swimming Lessons

In Year 5 the children have the exciting opportunity to go swimming! Our swimming lessons take place at Belper Leisure Centre on Tuesday mornings. The children will have approximately five swimming lessons per half term, throughout the whole year.

Each week, we will walk to swimming and back, so if any parents are available to help as 'walkers' please contact your child's class teacher.

These swimming lessons are ran/taught by qualified Derbyshire County Council swimming instructors, with the support of your child's class teacher. The children will learn to become more confident in the water, learn a variety of swimming strokes and how to be safe in the water. Swimming is an important part of our PE curriculum at St. John's and is a National Curriculum requirement for all Primary School aged children. Please see the link below for more information on the national curriculum expectations for swimming.

To attend swimming lessons, your children will need to come to school 'beach ready' on Tuesday's, wearing their swimming kit under their school uniform. They will then need to bring alternative clothing, a towel and any other items (such as goggles) in a bag, ready to go swimming each week.

Should you have any questions regarding swimming, please contact your child's class teacher via the school office.

Parent helpers

We  require help in accompanying us on the walk to and from the pool as well as acting as a ‘spotter’ whilst we are there. If you are able to help with walking to swimming some weeks, please contact your child's teacher. Without parental support, we will find it very difficult to be able to take the children swimming

Miss Proud's class will be leaving school at 9:30 each Tuesday and returning at 11:15

Miss Walker's class will be leaving school at 9:50 each Tuesday and returning at 11:45.
