  • Measles letter for parents

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

The Director of Public Health in Derbyshire has asked us to publish a letter for parents about the rise in measles cases. Unfortunately, due to several years of low vaccine uptake, the number of cases of measles is rising in Derbyshire and the UK.

Measles can cause a serious illness with 20% of children having measles having to be submitted to hospital.

Please read to the letter to help keep your children and everyone else, as safe as possible.

  • Weather update - 12pm Thursday 8th Feb

    Thu 08 Feb 2024

    Weather update – 12pm – Thursday 8th February 2024

Children have enjoyed their morning playtime on the playground in the covering of snow that we had at school this morning.

At present school is fully open and all the children are safe in school. The weather forecast for the rest of the afternoon is for sleet until 2pm and then rain as temperatures begin to increase. Therefore, we have no plans to fully or partially close at this point and all children need to stay at school with their friends and teachers. If any children are collected by parents, their absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Please support us by not collecting your child, to help us ensure that the school can operate as normal this afternoon.

Should the weather change and we need to re-consider this position we will publish another weather update.

    Thank you for your support.

  • Road works

    Thu 11 Jan 2024

Message posted at 1.15pm - Thursday 11th January

Parents will all be aware that at the beginning of the week we had some road works outside school that caused some disruption. Unfortunately, today the power company have had to return to Laund Nook to address continued problems with the electricity supply to houses in the local area. This means that they are, as I write, digging up the grass verge and pavement outside school again.

We have been told that this time the hole may be bigger and at this point we do not know which direction they will have to dig. It may be that part of the road has to be dug up and/or more of the pavement. There may also be vans and vehicles outside school at 3.30pm that are not normally there.

    With this in mind -

    • Families that walk up Laund Nook towards the three-cornered park will be able to walk across the top carpark if the pavement is blocked outside of school.

    • We will be speaking to children this afternoon about leaving school safely and making them aware that some parents may not be able to stand in familiar places. We have re-iterated the rule to them that if they cannot see an adult where they expect to see one, they are to return straight to school.

    • Families need to be aware that there may be significantly reduced road access on Laund Nook and are encouraged to park further way from school and walk the last part and not drive along Laund Nook.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Mr. Averis

  • Back to School

    Sun 07 Jan 2024

    Good afternoon

I hope that you have all enjoyed a lovely holiday. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow.

Unfortunately, over the new year weekend storm damage led to power disruptions in the Laund Nook area. Several neighbours had no power and emergency repair work needed to be carried out by the power company to restore electricity. Part of this work has left a large hole just outside the main school gates that blocks the pavement across the front of school and makes entering the school difficult.

We contacted the power company last week, letting them know of the problems that our community would face when school re-opened. The power company let us know that they planned on completing the work and filling in the hole by Friday 5th January. However they still had not done so by lunchtime on Sunday 7th and therefore I doubt that it will be done by tomorrow morning.

With this in mind can I please ask that parents make every effort not to drive along Laund Nook tomorrow. Please park further away and then walk with your child to school. When walking please take extra care outside of school, the pavement is blocked and there is no option but to walk on the road to get around the obstruction.

I apologise for the inconvenience that this creates. We will contact the power company again tomorrow and share any information about planned completion as soon as we have it.

    Mr. Averis
