  • Heat update

    Thank you to all the parents who have helped us keep children "cool in school" today. We've had lots happening to keep ourselves cool all day including

    • foot baths, with children standing in trays of cool water
    • cold compresses, we had lots of flannels in school that were dampened and then applied to necks and foreheads
    • regular drink breaks and water monitors filling water bottles 
    • using the coolest parts of the school including the shade under trees for lessons and time outs

    Tomorrow school is open as normal again. Thank you for your continued support with children wearing PE kits, sun hats and sun cream and bringing a water bottle to school. 

  • Heat advice for 18th and 19th July

    At time of writing there has been no further advice from the Department for Education since we published our letter on Friday afternoon. CLICK HERE

    This letter has advice for parents on helping us keep ourselves cool and safe tomorrow and Tuesday. We would like to add to this that as well as bringing sun hats to school and wearing sun cream, children are able to wear their PE kit T-shirts and shorts. 

     

    Star Primary have shared with parents that they have cancelled their gymnastics club on Tuesday after school. Mr. Silk has also cancelled his running club after school on Tuesday. At this time please assume that all other events are running as planned, this includes the nursery graduation ceremony on Monday morning.

  • School dinner money price increase

    From the 1st September 2022 school dinner will cost £2.30 a day.

    This small increase in price still reflects excellent value for money. CLICK HERE. 

  • Summer reading challenge

    On the 4th and 5th July children were introduced to Derbyshire's summer reading challenge in our assembly. More information is available on the Derbyshire website. CLICK HERE. 

    This summer children are being challenged to read six books from their local library, Belper library by Morrisons supermarket is taking part. 

     

    For every book your child reads this summer they will get a sticker, when they have read 6 books they will get a certificate and a medal. 

     

    The launch event is at Belper library on Saturday 16th July when children are invited to join in with free events and activities. This summer the reading challenge is themed around Science and Technology and throughout the day on the 16th July Belper library will have free activities for your children to do based on the Gadgeteers. Children don't have to attend the launch event, they can pick up their sticker chart and first book at any time. 

  • Letter for neighbours published about trees on school grounds

    We have published a letter today for our neighbours who have contacted the school about the five year tree survey that we received in May 2022. 

     

    The letter invites neighbours to contact us to find out about any tree works that may be scheduled to take place on any trees that may be near to their property over the next five years The letter is on our website - CLICK HERE

    We have added the dates of our final two INSET days for school year 2022-2023. All 5 days are

     

    • Thursday 1st September 2022
    • Friday 2nd September 2022
    • Monday 10th October 2022
    • Friday 21st October 2022
    • Monday 6th February 2023

  • Free summer holiday club for pupil premium children

    Amber Valley School Sports Partnership (AVSSP) will be running a holiday camp for the first three weeks of the summer holiday. AVSSP are the group that organise lots of our after school sport competitions and provide us at school with a PE coach every Wednesday.

    Pupil premium children are able to book places for free, the cost for other children is £15 per day. 

     

    We have been asked to share that bookings can be made from 6pm on Wednesday 6th July when this link will work. CLICK HERE. Please note that the link will not work until 6pm on the 6th July. 

  • Sport afternoon Friday 1st July

    We are still looking forward to our sport afternoon for junior children. 

     

    At 11.30am the BBC weather page gives a chance of light showers this afternoon, that hopefully will not drift over our field.
