Reading

At St. John's, we love to encourage all children to read lots and develop a love of reading. The expectation is for each child to read at least five times per week at home to an adult. We ask that this is recorded in your child's reading record and signed by the adult each time.

Also, we aim for all children to read to an adult at school as much as possible and we read to the children too - reading class story books and poems every week as much as possible! Reading is a key life skill and vitally important but also should be fun and enjoyable too!

Lastly, we would like to encourage all our children to read as much as possible and to take an Accelerated Reader quiz on each book they finish. These quizzes will help improve their reading and comprehension skills and will determine the books they can have from our school library. For more information about Accelerated Reader books and quizzes, please contact your child's teacher.
