Year 3 Rolling Numbers

Times Table Chants/Songs performed by Year 3 - 2017/18.
Parents, please supervise your child whilst using You-tube, as some content is not suitable for them.

Week beginning 9th November '20

Maths

Continue to learn times tables via TT Rockstars, chanting, paper methods & being asked questions involving multiplication and division.  You can sing songs for the tables too, from You-tube (with parental supervision)  You could try Rolling Numbers, from the founder of TT Rockstars. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgNvw_fXUzlLpKzY2Iu3K3khUaEleYICf

We've been looking at fraction this week, finding halves, quarters etc. of numbers, by dividing.  Have a go at the sheet you've brought home.

Spellings

This week we are concentrating on words with the prefixes 'mis' and 're'.  Look at the root word and think about what it means.  Then add on the prefix and discuss how the meaning of the word changes.

You can use the 'Look, Cover, Write, Check, Repeat' method.  You can also air write them in front of you going from the left to the right hand side of your body (crossing the mid-line).  Why not use ICT games, for a change? https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/lcwc/index.html

Maths

This week we'd like the children to complete their Maths sheet, if possible, or practice sharing amounts into 2s, 5s and 10s then recording what they have done as division calculations, if the sheet is too hard.

We will not be doing a tables test this week.

As with previous weeks, please go onto TT Rockstars.

We have given the children spellings to learn, but they will not be tested until after 1/2 term.

To practice the tables that they need for their weekly tests, the children need to play on Garage or Arena. Any other game will give them any table up to 12 x 12.  The children also need to remember that they will get questions both ways round e.g. 4 x 2 =, or 2 x 4 = .

This week the children also have a paper sheet practicing their 4 x table.

Spellings:

This week the children have some of the high frequency words which they are expected to be able to read and write by the end of the year.  These should have been stuck in their yellow homework books, or will be loose in their reading records, if they forgot it on Friday.

MATHS:

As per last week, practice your tables on TT Rockstars.

https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/20719

If you're having problems logging in, it may be that you've not got our school.  Click onto 'Change School' and either put in our postcode - DE56 and choose from the drop down menu, or Belper St Johns (the other St Johns is Ripley), then enter your user name and password.

If you still can't login, please let us know.

You can also practice your tables on paper e.g. using a Times Tables grid for the tables you are learning.

BRONZE = 2, 10 & 5

SILVER = 3, 4 & 8

GOLD = 6, 7 & 9

You can chant, or sing the times tables - 2, 4, 6, 8.....;

1 x 2 = 2, 2 x 2 = 4, 3 x 2 = 6, 4 x 2 = 8 .....;

2 x 1 = 2, 2 x 2 = 4, 2 x 3 = 6, 2 x 4 = 8 .....

ENGLISH - SPELLINGS:

These should be stuck in your homework book.  Please practice them at home, using the read, cover, write, check method.  You can also write a sentence for each, to show you understand the meaning of the word.
