Nursery – Zooming Off to Space 🚀

In Nursery, the children zoomed off to space, following their natural curiosity about the world above them. Using the story Martha Maps It Out as a starting point, the children were inspired to think about journeys, maps and exploration as they asked big questions such as “Why do we have night and day?” and “How could we get to the moon?”

The children explored light and dark, shared what they notice in the sky during the day and at night, and talked about their ideas of space travel. They created fizzy planets, investigating what happens when materials mix, and made moon craters, exploring texture and cause and effect. Working together, they also created giant space maps, just like Martha, to represent their imaginary journeys through space.

Through stories, hands‑on experiments, creative activities and role play, the children developed early scientific skills by asking questions, observing closely and talking about what they noticed. These playful experiences helped them to understand that science begins with curiosity and that their ideas and questions are important
