Sunday 28th January 2024

Another amazing day which started at 7.30am where we ate curried potato and puri for breakfast followed by an omelette. We then walked from Bishop’s house to St Paul’s Cathedral for an 8.30am communion service. This was very traditional but all spoken in English.

We didn’t stay for tea afterwards as we wanted to visit the Victoria Memorial Hall and gardens before dashing back to our rooms to get changed for a boat trip on the Ganges.

Victoria memorial Hall was incredibly impressive and peaceful. There were sleepy stray dogs and gorgeous gardens. Not what you might expect to see in the middle of Kolkata.

What can you find out about this building?

It was then time to cross the roads again - which is risky - to meet the staff of CRS who drove us to the boat. On the way we saw the Hastings flyover, where one of their projects is supporting communities that live and go to school there. One of our group will be working with these children.

Before the boat trip we had time for a walk through an old fun fair (watch the video to see one of Mrs Richardson’s favourite childhood rides).

All aboard for the boat trip! We passed under both the old and new Howrah bridges. Lunch was on board and our starter was sticky chilli coated vegetables followed by curry.

After that we headed back via the shopping centre to buy some supplies and treats.

Another special day and tomorrow we get to go to school!
