It was a disturbed night sleep last night. There was an alarm going off from 3am but when it eventually stopped I could get a little more sleep.
At the prayer meeting today we focused on Luke 9: 46~48. We thought about people who are unnoticed or feel unnoticed. Those on the outside or the edges of society and the importance of welcoming everyone no matter what.
Breakfast was an omelette, banana and a juice box. I also had a slice of bread from home. It was delicious!
We then collected our teaching resources and walked to CRS. One of the jobs I had to do this morning was to check all the sports day equipment, make a list so we can buy any other items we might need.
Afterwards we started our journey to school. It was very busy on the roads today, lots of standstill traffic.
The children were pleased to see me this morning running up to the car and wanting to say hello to the other teachers in the car before they went to their schools.
We started the day by handing out the shakers they had made previously and singing the hello song I had taught them. I then gave half the class some claves and the other half carried on with their shakers we practiced playing each part and then changed over so all the children got a turn. They were brilliant picking up the simple welcome song and playing along.
I then started to teach them a new song “if you’re happy and you know it”.
After a few rounds the teachers from Scott Lane School then started giving examples of new actions.
I then reread the story of “We’re going on a bear hunt” using lots of actions and reinforcing the new vocabulary taught on Tuesday. The children were brilliant at joining in with the repeated phrases. I then modelled how to make a bear mask and the children all made one. They worked really hard and concentrated on following each instruction.
It was then tiffin time so the children went and washed their hands. Today they had buttered toast with sugar sprinkled on the top. It looked delicious.
When they had finished I took them all outside to play on the equipment. They loved it as they don’t normally have games equipment or climbing frames to use.
Our next lesson was maths, we sang a counting song to begin with and then ordered numbers 1~10. Next we focused on counting objects correctly. Some of the older children were really good at subitising. I linked this back to our story we’re going on a bear hunt and had brought some simple counting sheets where the children recorded their answers. I then worked with some of the older children to complete some addition problems together. It was then time for the children to go home. It was lovely to be introduced to some of the parents as they were collected.
The journey back to CRS was busy. We all had some lunch before I used my spare time to prepare for the sports day on Saturday.
For my tea tonight I had a masala dosa and a potato chop.
As a class can you research both these items from the menu. What are they and what ingredients are in them.
This is some of the change from my tea tonight. Who is on the 200 rupee note?
As I have been travelling around Kolkata I have spotted trees, fences, buildings and bollards by the side of the road all painted in white and blue.
Why is this? Can you find out?
It’s now 10pm here but 4.30pm in England so it’s time for me to get some sleep, although some loud music has just started from a wedding party down the road.
