In Year 1, the children’s scientific learning was inspired by the story Rosie’s Hat, which sparked curiosity about weather, materials and how things change. Through discussion and investigation, the children explored how weather affects objects and everyday life.
The children carried out a rain in a jar experiment, helping them to understand how rain clouds form and how water droplets fall. They also designed and made aeroplanes, testing how well they flew and then adapting their designs to see what changes made a difference. This encouraged careful observation, problem‑solving and thinking like engineers.
