Week 3

We have had an amazing time this week celebrating as 2026 is a BIG year for Belper and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. It is the 250th anniversary of the first cotton mill opening in Belper. It will be 300 years since the birth of Jedidiah Strutt, the man who transformed Belper into the world’s first cotton mill town. It is also 25 years since the Derwent Valley Mills were inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list!

The children had wonderful time learning all about Belper mills and how the water wheels worked.  They have all decorated a cotton square which will be displayed either in school or down at Belper River Gardens.  To finish the week they took part in a workshop and made a 'hobby donkey' ready for a donkey race on the field on Friday!  So exciting.
