Writing

At our school, we use the Pathways to Write programme to support children in becoming confident, creative and skilled writers.

Pathways to Write is a high-quality, text-based approach to teaching writing. Each unit is built around an engaging, carefully chosen book, which inspires children and provides a meaningful context for their writing.

How Does It Work?

Children explore a high-quality text in depth over a number of weeks. Through this, they

- Develop a strong understanding of vocabulary and language

- Learn how different texts are structured

- Build ideas before writing

- Practise key grammar and writing skills in context

Writing is taught through a clear sequence:

- Reading and exploring the text

- Learning and practising key skills

- Planning and drafting writing

- Editing and improving their work

What are the benefits?

- Encourages a love of reading and writing

- Supports children to write for a purpose and audience

- Builds confidence through structured support

- Develops grammar and punctuation in a meaningful way

- Helps children produce high-quality, extended pieces of writing

Supporting All Learners

Lessons are carefully adapted to meet the needs of all children, including those who need extra support or additional challenge. Teachers use modelling, shared writing and scaffolds to ensure that every child can succeed. .
