Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We look forward to children arriving at school in festive jumpers and Christmas decorations tomorrow, Wednesday 18th December.
Children are encouraged to wear these festive jumpers or t-shirts over their normal school uniform and we apologise for any confusion that may have arisen in a letter that recently went home.
Children are invited to bring a small donation to school, that we will use to help purchase resources for our friends at Scott Lane school in Kolkata. Last year we used the Christmas Jumper day donations to purchase some books and story puppets that we gave to the teachers and children in Kolkata in January.
We used to support the Christmas Show box appeal every December but now invite families to support others, less fortunate than us, by making a small donation on Christmas Jumper day, thank you for your support.
Children in nursery are bringing home a letter about some new tarmac that is getting laid to make the path along side school nicer to use.
From Thursday 12th December children will use a different gate at 8.45am and 3.35pm. They will use the same gate at lunchtimes.
The letter is also on our website. CLICK HERE.
Children in nursery and reception are bringing home a letter today, Tuesday 10th December.
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the nursery nativity that was due to take place on Wednesday 11th December.
You can find a copy of the letter on line. CLICK HERE.
We have unfortunately had to postpone the date of the nursery nativity, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 11th December and apologise for any inconvenience that this causes. This is due to Mrs. Gallen having to begin her maternity leave today on Monday 9th December and Mrs. Grigoriu being off ill today, Monday and tomorrow (Tuesday 10th). At time of writing we are not sure if Mrs. Grigoriu will be returning to work on Wednesday so have made the decision now to postpone the nursery nativity to help parents make arrangements as soon as possible. Subject to Mrs. Grigoriu returning to work, we plan to reschedule the nursery nativity as soon as possible.
I am pleased to report that all is well with Mrs. Gallen, however, she has been advised to begin her maternity leave earlier than planned so will not be able to return to work to enjoy the Christmas fun with us all. I am pleased that Miss Lemon, who will be teaching in the nursery from January is able to come and work on Wednesday 11th and 18th to get to know the children before the holiday. For the rest of the time Mrs. Badhan, who has been working in our reception for three weeks will be able to teach in the nursery.
I will be able to send more information home tomorrow (Tuesday 10th).
Mr. R. Averis

Children are bringing home a letter this week with information about our open evening on Tuesday 10th December.
All parents are invited into school to have a look at resources and information that we will be using in school to help teach children the new Relationship and Sex Education scheme of work. CLICK HERE.
The new legislation that schools are required to act on can be viewed on the .gov website. CLICK HERE.
We look forward to seeing you on the 10th and answering any questions that you may have. Please be aware that some of the resources that we have in school to use with older children in year 6 may not be suitable for younger children and therefore you may want to consider bringing your children to the drop in work shop.
Children are bringing home information about Christmas services at St.Peter's and other local churches today.
Unfortunately there is an error on them. The Christingle service at St. Mark's church is on Sunday 15th December and not Sunday 8th December.
Our friends at Vaillant in Belper have sent us advent calendars for every child again this December. Vaillant also gifted the school gazebos last summer to help us run a successful sport day in the hot weather.
Children are bringing these advent calendars home this week. They have been told not to eat any of the chocolates until parents have checked for any potential allergies as we did in 2018.
Before the half term holiday children brought home a letter about an exciting time capsule competition. The competition is only open to children from St. John's school.
The winners, one from each year group, will have their letter sealed in the time capsule in Belper's new library that is been built on Derwent Street. The time capsule will be 'buried' into a wall of the library and will have a display window so that visitors to the library are able to see it.
The time capsule will be sealed and buried in 2020 and we expect that the winning children will be at the library for the burying as guests of honour along with other local dignitaries.
The letter will be opened in many years time - when the children will be adults. I hope that they take the opportunity to get involved in this once in a lifetime opportunity to shape and record our local history.
Entries need to be returned to Mrs. Wojcik at school by Friday 15th November.

Due to flooding in and around the Belper area this afternoon parents are invited to come and collect children from school from 2.30pm this afternoon.
Please come to the front gate as normal and staff will go and collect your child from the classroom for you.
All children are safe in school and can stay here until 3.30pm this afternoon when school will close as normal. Any parents that are delayed in collecting their children at 3.30pm can be assured that we will look after all children at the end of the day until they are able to arrive.
