Update on Wednesday 24th June at 1.50pm.
The Met Office has updated its amber weather warning for Belper and has now extended it into Friday and Saturday. CLICK HERE. This means that schools are advised to take precautions regarding physical activity and staying cool at times when we had planned to hold our junior sports afternoon.
Therefore, we will be postponing the sports afternoon. We hope it will now take place on the afternoon of Monday 29th June instead.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused, however we have made the decision with the best interests of children in mind.
Updated at 9.15am on Wednesday 24th June
Good morning,
Following our update on Monday morning, there have been no further changes to the guidance schools should follow to keep children safe and comfortable during the current weather conditions. We are continuing to monitor the latest information on the Department for Education advice page – CLICK HERE.
Thank you for your support in ensuring that children come to school dressed appropriately for the warm weather. It has been lovely to see them wearing hats, T-shirts, shorts, and loose-fitting clothing to help them stay cool.
Due to the current conditions, we have taken the decision to cancel the after-school cycling club scheduled for Thursday.
Belper remains under an Amber weather warning today and tomorrow. At present, there are no weather warnings in place for Friday. We remain hopeful that Sports Day will go ahead as planned, although the BBC is currently forecasting a 40% chance of rain on Friday afternoon.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Our Year 6 children had a good first night away - no tears and all quiet by 11! They have really enjoyed the activities so far even in this hot weather and are now looking forward to their second night's activity before settling down to watch the England game.
Year 6 children have arrived happily and safely at Whitehall for their three day residential.
School Weather Update – Monday 22 June – 11.40am
The weather forecast for the week ahead indicates high temperatures, with the Met Office issuing heat warnings for parts of the UK.
At the time of writing, an amber weather warning is in place for Belper for today (Monday), Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There are currently no weather warnings in place for Belper on Friday. For the most up-to-date information, please refer to the Met Office website CLICK HERE. During an amber heat warning, the Met Office advises taking the following precautions to reduce the risk of heat-related illness:
In line with this guidance, we will be adapting our lunchtimes and afternoon breaks. Children will either remain indoors or sit outside in shaded areas.
At present, our Junior Sports Afternoon, scheduled for 1:30pm on Friday 26th June, will go ahead as planned. There are currently no weather warnings in place for Friday, and although it is expected to be warm, the forecast indicates some cloud cover.
However, if an amber weather warning is issued for Friday, we will follow guidance and reschedule Sports Day to the reserve date of Monday 29th June.
Thank you for your continued support as we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all our children.
Due to the poor weather forecast, we have postponed the walk to the local shops and park for our reception children that we hoped to have tomorrow morning, Wednesday 3rd June.
We look forward to letting you know when we are able to enjoy this event as soon as we can.
Unfortunately the PTFA have had to cancel the Car Boot Sale that we hoped would take place on Sunday 28th June.
