Flu immunisation update – published on Monday 6th October 2025
The school health team have let us know that, due to a number of parental enquiries, they have extended the timeline that parents at St. John’s have to register their child for the flu vaccination.
Registration has been re-opened and will now close at 11.30pm on Wednesday 8th October.
The medical team will be at St. John’s on Friday 10th October and all children, who have parental consent, will be able to have the vaccination. Parents can choose if they want their child to have the nasal spray or injection. The medical team advise the nasal spray is the most effective.
Parents and carers, who haven’t given consent yet, are invited to give consent by following this link

Parents that have any questions are invited to read the message that we gave to families in our weekly email on Friday 12th September. CLICK HERE.
We have published a letter about vacancies on the governing body that we are looking to fill. CLICK HERE.
We are looking forward to supporting the school medical team (Intrahealth) with flu immunisations this autumn for all children in reception to year 6.
Children will not be given the vaccination without parental permission.
Please follow the instructions below from Intrahealth to inform Intrahealth of your decision.
If you have any questions please contact school, I look forward to helping.
Thank you
Mrs. Cooper - School Medical Assistant

I hope that you have have a lovely summer break and enjoyed some family time together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 8th September.
As usual on the first day of the school year teachers will be on the playground to meet their children. Therefore on Monday 8th September.
From Tuesday morning children will be able to go straight to their classrooms, as usual, and will not line up on the playground.
We are happy to share all these ideas that we have been sent to help enjoy the summer holidays this year. St. John's is happy to share these ideas in good faith and do not endorse any of the activities suggested.
Updated at 7.55am on Monday 14th July
The weather is cooler than on Friday and so we look forward to enjoying our sport afternoon later today. We will start at 1.30pm.
Visitors and spectators need to remember to use the bottom gate and enter the school grounds from Dovedale Crescent not Laund Nook.

Dear parents and carers
The weather forecast and weather warnings mean that we are making changes to the plans for today.
Nursery sport morning – 10am start
This is going to continue as planned. The activities should take no longer than 30 minutes and the children will be in the shade when they aren’t racing. At this time of day, we feel that the children and spectators will be able to enjoy themselves happily and safely. Please be aware that spectators may not be in the shade.
Reception and infant sport afternoon
Unfortunately, this will not take place today and apologise for the upset that this may cause. We will postpone it to the reserve session of 1.30pm on Monday 14th July. We feel that today children and spectators will not be able to enjoy the event happily and safely and appreciate your support in this.
Published 9.40am - Wednesday 9th July
Parents and carers of children in infants and reception.
We are all looking forward to our sport afternoon on Friday 11th July. However, we also need to ensure that the event is enjoyed happily and safely by the children, staff and spectators and the weather forecast for the next few days implies it is going to be very hot and sunny.
On Friday 11th July at 8.00am we will use any forecasts and potential weather warnings to decide if the event can go ahead as planned and publish the decision on our website and by email.
If we can’t have it on Friday 11th we will try to have it on the reserve session of Monday 14th July. The weather forecast at present for the 14th is for it to be cooler than on Friday. However, we will decide at 8am on Monday 14th July about having the event take place in the afternoon and publish information on the website and in an email.
Making the decision at 8am on each day seems to be the most sensible approach to ensure that we use the latest most up to date information available, whilst at the same time trying to help families make any arrangements with work.
We will be using the weather warning information given by the UK Health Security Agency. At present this is giving a yellow warning for Friday afternoon for the East Midlands. CLICK HERE.
If we can’t have it take place on either afternoon, with spectators, we will hopefully have the infant and reception sport event take place in school at another time, however we would not be able to welcome spectators.
I apologise for the upset that this may cause as we try to work with weather forecast, weather warnings, the safety of all and the arrangements that I know many of you make with work to come and support your children.
Thank you for your support and understanding - Mr. Averis
Update - 10am 9th July
Decisions about the nursery sport morning, hopefully taking place at 10am on Friday 11th July, will be made at 8am on Friday 11th as well.
Please can all parents of children in year 6 go to the PTFA events page to let the committee know about allergies and preferences to help the prom run smoothly and safely - thank you
The hot weather this week at school means that we are all making sure we stay sun safe and cool.
Please ensure that you apply sun-cream to your children before they come to school and ensure that they -
At point of writing (5pm on Wednesday 18th June) there are no hot weather warnings in place for the rest of the week or the weekend. CLICK HERE. We will continue to monitor the MET office website to ensure that we follow any guidance should a weather warning for hot weather be put in place and adjust what we do in school accordingly.
We are therefore still looking forward to the PTFA colour run tomorrow night. The aim of this event is to get messy. It is not a race, it is not timed, the slower you run, the messier you get, the more time you have having colour thrown at you and getting hosed down with water. The PTFA have also ensured that there are also extra gazebos in place. Everyone who takes part gets a medal regardless of how long they take.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
