Good afternoon
I hope that you have all enjoyed a lovely summer holiday and that you are all ready to come back to school at 9am tomorrow, Tuesday 5th September. We look forward to speaking to the children about their holidays and then helping them settle back into the school routine with their new teachers as quickly and happily as possible.
All of the building work at the front of school has finished and this scaffolding been taken down. Therefore, children will be able to come to school through the normal gate at the side of school at 9am and then leave school through this gate again at 3.30pm. We will not be using the big double gates from the carpark that come straight onto the playground.
We still have some scaffolding up as builders finish replacing the roof at the back of the building. But this will have no impact on getting in or out of the building.
See you all tomorrow.
Mr. Averis.

We have added the final two INSET days to the school calendar for school year 2023-2024. Our 5 INSET days will be

A few weeks ago, we shared that we are expecting builders to be working at St. John's over the summer break. They will be replacing some of the flat roof on the original building.
Some of the building work may begin next week, during the last week of term, as there are plans to start putting up the scaffolding whilst children are still at school. This means that next week, we are expecting scaffolding to put up around our year one classrooms at the front of school. If this does take place, as hoped, then we will have to alter the way that children come into school.
Please can parents be aware that we may, therefore, be using the bottom car park double gates at the beginning and end of every day, rather than the single pedestrian gate at the side of the school for the last few days of term. The scooter park will be open as normal.
We hope to give all the junior children their sport festival tomorrow morning, Thursday 13th July, to replace the sport afternoons that were cancelled a couple of weeks ago due to the weather forecasts.
Please can you make sure that your child has there PE kit in school so that they can take part.
Unfortunately we are not inviting parents or carers to this event, the children will be cheered and supported by their friends.
The year 5 children are having a great time at Lea Green. Mrs. Newton has shared that, despite getting caught in a heavy shower yesterday, that they are still enjoying themselves with all their friends.
All of our year 5 children have arrived safely and happily at Lea Green and are enjoying their first round of activities.
Many thanks to all the families that have started using the cashless payment system for junior school dinners. We have had positive feedback how easy Parentpay is to use, which is great news.
Unfortunately, we do have some families that aren’t using Parentpay to pay for meals in a timely manner. Please can families ensure that their Parent pay account is always in credit so that children are enjoying meals that have been paid for, and not pay in arrears.
Despite the weather forecasts working against us for the junior sport afternoons last week, we are still going to ensure that our children get to enjoy a sport festival.
Over the next two weeks we are going to have
The school calendar is very busy over the next two weeks. We have school trips, visitors and other events that have been in the calendar for a long time. Please ensure that junior children have their PE kits with them in school every day so that we can run this event as soon as the weather and school calendar allows. The weather forecast for the next fortnight isn’t brilliant, with the BBC showing rain every day from tomorrow (Saturday 8th) to Thursday 20th. Fingers crossed we get to enjoy this event ASAP. Sorry but we will not be inviting families and parents into watch these sport festivals.
Update at 11.55am
Unfortunately we have been caught out by the weather. Heavy rain for the last 30 minutes has now soaked the field and the weather forecast for the rest of the afternoon is for more heavy rain and thundery showers.
We are really sorry but we have had to cancel this year's junior sport afternoon.
This is never what we want to happen and, as I shared in Friday's weekly blog (CLICK HERE) this is the first time for many years that a sport afternoon hasn't been able to take place due to the weather.
Once again, sorry for any upset and frustration that this causes and thank you for understanding the position that we are in.
